[ARCHIVED] City offices closed for Juneteenth

Chaska City Offices Closed

City offices are closed Monday, June 19 for Juneteenth. This includes City Hall, the Police Department lobby, Municipal Services Building, and the Chaska Community Center.

Emergency services will still be available by calling 9-1-1 or non-emergency dispatch at 952-361-1231.

We will reopen Tuesday, June 20.

Juneteenth is now recognized as a city-observed holiday after it was made a state holiday this year. Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday. Juneteenth dates back to June 19, 1865, when General Order No. 3 was read in Galveston, Texas declaring all enslaved people free. That means it took over 2 years from the day the Emancipation Proclamation was signed for enslaved people in parts of the country, like Texas, to experience freedom.
