[ARCHIVED] City Offices Closed Juneteenth (6/19)

Offices Closed Newsflash

Tomorrow (6/19) is Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday.

City offices will be closed in observance of Juneteenth, which became a city-recognized holiday after it was made a state holiday in 2023. Offices will reopen on Friday, June 20.

Juneteenth dates back to June 19, 1865, when General Order No. 3 was read in Galveston, Texas, declaring all enslaved people free. That means it took over 2 years from the day the Emancipation Proclamation was signed for enslaved people in parts of the country, like Texas, to experience freedom.

The Community Center and the Curling and Event Center are open regular hours.
Please note, the Curling Center is doing ice maintenance, so curling ice is unavailable.
